Important Information for WIOA Grant Applicants:

Applications may take up to 5 business days to review for eligibility. Please note that WIOA cannot cover courses that begin or expenses incurred before you officially join the program.
Your chosen training program must be listed on the Illinois Eligible Training Providers and Programs List and must be completed within three years of your application.
If your training program accepts financial aid, you must complete the FAFSA each year you participate in the program. Any financial aid you receive must be applied toward your training costs before WIOA funds can be used.

WIOA Scholarship Requirements
The WIOA Scholarship can help pay for:
  • Tuition and fees
  • Required textbooks
  • Required equipment and supplies approved by the training provider
Your approved training program must be completed within three years of enrollment.
Important Funding Guidelines
  • WIOA cannot pay for expenses you incurred before joining the program.
  • WIOA cannot reimburse you for costs paid without prior written approval.
  • You must submit copies of your class schedules, grades, certificates, and/or degrees earned during your training.
Staying Connected
  • You must stay in contact with your career planner each month.
  • You must report any changes to your personal information, training plan, employment status, or unemployment benefits.
  • If your employment status changes, you must provide documentation to your career planner.
Financial Aid Requirements
If your training program offers financial aid, you must apply for it each year you participate in the program. Any financial aid awarded must be used before WIOA Scholarship funds can be applied.
After Training
After completing your training program, you agree to participate in one year of follow-up services, which includes quarterly contact with your career planner.
Employment Outcomes
The goal of the WIOA Scholarship is employment. After you become employed, you agree to provide your career planner with:
  • Employer name
  • Job title
  • Start date
  • Hourly wage or salary
This information helps us track program success and provide additional support if needed.

Local Program Guidelines for WIOA Grant Applicants:

We recommend applying for the grant if your intent is to upgrade your skills and obtain employment in an in-demand occupation.  Below are customer responsibilities should you be determined eligible for the scholarship program.  These will also be reviewed with your career planner.
Customers must be able to complete their training program within 3 years.
Customers who enroll in a program that accepts financial aid must apply for federal financial aid (FAFSA) each year on the program. Any financial aid awarded will be used before WIOA scholarship funds can be applied.
WIOA cannot pay for expenses you incurred before joining the program or costs paid without prior written approval.

If you accept these requirements, complete the steps below no more than 90 days prior to the first day of class. All documentation must be received to determine eligibility for our scholarship.

Training must be completed within 3 years of application and the program must be on the approved training programs list.
Prepare to apply for Federal Student Aid for training programs which accept federal and state financial aid.  Any financial aid awarded will be applied to tuition, books, and supplies prior to WIOA funding. 
Review WIOA eligibility guidelines.  WIOA serves a wide range of individuals to help them find and qualify for meaningful employment.  All individuals are encouraged to apply even if they don't think they will meet eligibility criteria.
